I know it’s only 2013, but those of us focused on health insurance benefits are already looking toward 2014!
We just received an email update from the Los Angeles Association of Health Underwriters (LAAHU) advising us that “The new “Covered California” (new name of the California Health Benefit Exchange) website is “live.” Although you can read the whole message here, I will summarize the important points for you below.
Firstly, “the new website contains individual and small employer content on the Small Employer Health Options Program (SHOP) section.” They promise “a special newsletter will be published about the SHOP section later this quarter.” We’ll share it with you on our blog as soon as we get it!
“According to Covered California, the site is available in both English and Spanish versions, plus a variety of fact sheets in eleven additional languages.” Although the new website provides basic information about the Exchange and a calculator for a very basic estimate, we can get you a more specific estimate by calling our office.
The email also refrenced the The Health Benefit Exchange website which states that “The vision of the California Health Benefit Exchange is to improve the health of all Californians by assuring their access to affordable, high quality care. The mission of the California Health Benefit Exchange is to increase the number of insured Californians, improve health care quality, lower costs, and reduce health disparities through an innovative, competitive marketplace that empowers consumers to choose the health plan and providers that give them the best value.” As of this writing, the home page lists quite a few articles on Covered California under their “Latest News” headline.
All in all, these sites seem to offer good information for those that are looking for more affordable health insurance options during this transition to the fully implemented Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Of course, we will be monitoring those sites and consolidating important information here, so I hope you will stay tuned to our blog as well!
We continue to believe that an informed insured is a healthier and more powerful insured!
